CIMA allows anyone to enter for their courses. You do not need to have any previous experience or qualifications to be able to enrol for one of the best Management Accounting courses in the world. 

Yes - CIMA made it possible for anybody to become a professional Chartered Management Accountant. It takes hard work, it takes effort. But you can do it. Yes, you. 

The CIMA courses all follow one on the other.  These courses all form part of a whole.  The goal that all CIMA students work towards is writing the TOPCIMA exam.  But before you can write the TOPCIMA exam, you must finish the exams in the previous levels.  It is kind of like starting at Grade 1 and finishing all the other grades before you can write your matric end exam. The course structure looks like this:

  •         CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting
  •         CIMA Professional Qualification: Operational Level
  •         CIMA Professional Qualification: Managerial Level
  •         CIMA Professional Qualification: Strategic Level
  •         CIMA Professional Qualification: T4 part (A) and T4 part (B)

As you can see, T4 is the highest level course and the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting is the lowest level course.  This means that you will need to start at the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting if you want to study up to T4 level.

When can I register for a course?  Can I start a course mid-year?

Certificate Level

You can register for a course at any point in the year.  Because the certificate level exam is computer based, there is no specific time that you must write the exam.  You just let us know when you are ready to write the exam and we will set everything up for you to write your exam online.  You must still come to the exam centre to write the exam, but you can write it at any time.  But you must be sure to understand that you can't do the Computer Based Exams from home.

There are a number of exam centers around South Africa.  When you register for your exam, we will help you find the centre that is nearest to you for you to write your exams there.

Professional Level

If you want to take a professional level course, you must make sure that you completed and passed your certificate level course.

You must have completed your previous exams before the end of February if you want to sit for the May professional exams or the end of August if you want to sit for the November exams. Just remember that we get really busy in January/February and July/August, so it can take up to 20 working days to process your exam registration.  So please make sure that you register for you exams in time.  To get the exam dates, go to this page.  Go to the section for Institute forms.  Under CIMA you will see a downloadable form called "CIMA Student Calendar Important Dates". It has all the dates that has to do with exams, including the dates when you can register for an exam and the end dates for registering.  So take a look and write all the relevant dates in your diary.
